Bespoke Art Deco Inspired Steel Balcony Railings
Fine Iron designed, manufactured and installed these bespoke Art Deco inspired balcony railings for a private residence in South East England
CLient Brief
The client approached us after seeing the Art Deco inspired balusters featured on a previous project shown on our website. She felt the design would suit her breakfast balcony overlooking the garden and asked us to incorporate the same geometric detailing with a simple handrail.
As the property is located close to the coast, corrosion protection was an important consideration. Rather than galvanising, which can occasionally lead to distortion in more delicate fabrications, the client chose our zinc thermal spray coating system. This provides excellent corrosion protection whilst maintaining the sharp lines and crisp detail of the metalwork.
MADE TO LAST
Following approval of the drawings, manufacture began with the distinctive ‘K’ pattern balusters. Inspired by traditional Art Deco ironwork, the design combines simple geometric forms with clean lines. Between each feature baluster, 16mm square solid steel balusters were used to complete the arrangement.
The balcony was manufactured with a base rail, 30mm square solid steel principal posts and a bespoke 50mm x 12mm convex steel handrail.
Once fabrication was complete, the railings were blast cleaned and prepared for finishing. The steelwork was then zinc thermal sprayed, primed, and finished in a black sateen marine-grade two-pack paint system.
The result is a durable balcony railing designed to withstand the demands of a coastal environment whilst remaining true to the client’s chosen Art Deco aesthetic.
