Wrought Iron Balustrade with organic leaf and vine detail
Fine Iron were commissioned to create this exceptional bespoke bronze finished balustrade and handrail for a private country estate.
Bespoke balustrade design
The clients required something truly unique to suit this large natural stone, cantilevered staircase and the team at Fine Iron worked closely with the clients exploring several styles and finishing options before culminating to this final design.
This balustrade is formed using 16mm hammered round bar with intermittent vines and cast iron leaves which seem to grow around the spindles. The springtime inspired wallpaper compliments the balustrade beautifully and the overall feel and style of this entrance hall and staircase is perfectly in keeping with this elegant home’s country surroundings.
Finishing Details
The continuous handrail was formed using frogs back profile – a popular choice as it is comfortable in the hand whilst being easy to grip and a traditional profile. The newel sitting on the ‘D’ tread at the bottom was forged in a tapering organic style to compliment the organic style balusters and the handrail concludes with an elegantly formed monkey tail.
In keeping with the tactile nature of the balustrade the ironwork was bronze thermal coated and hand-finished in-house with a custom mixed antique bronze patination. Finally the balustrade was waxed with Renaissance wax (https://www.picreator.co.uk/?page_id=144) to protect the finish from natural oils etc.
The light panelling running the length of the stairs provides breathing space between the balustrading and the wallpaper allowing you to fully appreciate this stunning design!
