Cast Iron Georgian Tulip Style Balusters

Fine Iron were asked to fabricate the structural steel for the staircase with a cut saw tooth string with curves in place of sharp 90’ angles to the quarter landings. The main contractor then clad the staircase with decorative mouldings, oak treads and risers. The balustrade design intent was for a gradually tapering cast iron Georgian tulip style baluster. Fine iron were not happy with the quality of existing patterns that were available for casting so chose instead to have a bespoke pattern made for the project. The balusters were then case in an SG iron they were bolted through the oak tread into the steel tread underneath and the top of the balusters were cut to the correct pitch line and drilled and tapped for securing to the core rail with countersunk engineering screws, ensuring clean but structurally sound connection.
